Today, Hormann AlertNET systems can deliver messages to any device with an email or SMS address. The messages arrive properly formated for the small screens common to these devices. This technique of indivudually addressing messages allows subscribers (whether staff or the public) the ability to subscribe to the types of messages they wish to receive. It offers great flexibility, but does require individual accounts, easily created by the user or a system administrator. (An organization can have separate public and private distribution lists).

The new system proposed by the FCC and the cellular industry is still years away from reality. Once operational, however, it will give wireless subscribers the ability to automatically receive warning messages for the area where they are presently located. This expansion of the Emergency Alert System to include wireless handsets will use Common Alerting Protocol messages as its input mechanism, a feature Hormann America already supports across its product families.
